In conjunction with funding raised during the 2105 Radiothon, The Auxiliary to UHNBC has donated funding for a much-needed piece of surgical equipment .
Over $38,000 was presented to Spirit of the North by the Auxiliary to purchase the Labtician Versavit II Vitrectomy machine, a system used by resident ophthalmologists for retinal surgeries. This new equipment provides a required upgrade from existing equipment, reducing operational costs and positively affecting outcomes for patients undergoing retinal surgeries at UHNBC.
“The Auxiliary are once again very pleased to help fund badly needed equipment for our hospital,” said Auxiliary to UHNBC President Linda Hohn.
The new Vitrectomy equipment is part of a suite of eye-care equipment upgrades being funded through Spirit of the North. The Optos SLO System and California UWF unit, a suite of diagnostic equipment for which fundraising began at the 2015 Radiothon event, is now on order with delivery anticipated in Spring 2016. The Labtician Versavit II Vitrectromy completes this eye care upgrade.
“We have an incredible partnership with the Auxiliary to UHNBC,” commented CEO for Spirit of the North, Judy Neiser. “Their membership believes in making a difference that impacts patient care and positive health outcomes, and this equipment has such a broad reach that it seemed a perfect fit. We are very thankful for their generous contribution.”
